So, this is the first time I am using my journal to post something that happened to me recently.

I decided to go ahead and spring for Season's 4-6 of Star Trek Voyager because I had been dreaming about B/7 story lines for the past week or so. I haven't gotten them yet but I look forward to watching some of those old episodes.

Yesterday I sat down and wrote almost 2,000 words to a new B/7 fic in about an hour. The words just seemed to flow, and I barely made any changes after giving is a read-through.

Then this morning I went to breakfast with some friends to a new restaurant and decided I would have pancakes. Upon reading the menu I saw banana pancakes and decided to get them. For those who don't know banana pancakes are B'Elanna's favorite. The really odd thing about this... the menu had them listed as #B7!!!!!

So I was a little tickled about that but couldn't share because the folks I was having breakfast with were not really fans, nor were they aware of the fact that I write fan fiction. We went on a brewery tour and while in the beer caves a friend took my picture. When she showed it to me she said "It look like your in Star Trek or something." Totally unexpected comment coming from her - I don't think she even watched the show.

So I'm going to take this as a sign that I should devote some time to writing B/7 fic. I have an unfinished B/7 and the new piece so far and plan to finish both and just keep going. So, all you B/7 fans get ready for some new fic!

Something important for you to consider.

From a nurse:

I'll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast. I remember begging the Doctors to keep these women in the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies.
So there I sat with my patients, giving them the instructions they needed to take care of themselves, knowing full well they didn't grasp half of what I was saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look spoke louder than the quiet 'Thank You' they muttered.

A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you know anyone who has had a Mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards.

Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure.
Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.

If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times. If you're receiving this, it's because I think you will take the 30 seconds to go to vote on this issue and send it on to others.
You know who will do the same.

There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require Insurance Companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the 'drive-through mastectomy' where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their Web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on.

It seems I've cocked things up big time as I just now realized that the Big 5000 due date is THIS THURSDAY and the FSAC:DOW is NEXT THURSDAY!

Somehow I've managed to convince myself that both were due on the 15th and so I have a just about finished Mutant X fic that need to be beta'd.

mrswoman thanks for offering to beta my Mutant X! I realize your schedule prohibits you getting to it until next week, and for very good reason. Therefore I am offering to write you a fic in lieu of an apology. Please just let me know what you'd like me to write.

I am off to New Hampshire to shop, leaf-peep and catch up on some of the many books I've yet to read. I'll have no Internet access so I won't be seeing all of you lovely people for a full week.

Just Ask

I’m not the one who’s misconstruing
what it is that we are doing.
All our friends seem to be telling
stories that are quite compelling.
Are they fact or are they fiction?
Is there courage of conviction?
While I tried to gain perspective
you made talking your objective.

No one asked me what I thought.
And so a tale was told that’s fraught
with half-truths and some outright lies,
with she said/she said alibis.
Efforts that were well intentioned,
just not for the reasons mentioned.
Offers to provide distraction
never meant to be attraction.

The funny thing about all this –
the drama that this whole thing is –
would have been much less an issue
if you simply took the time to
have your questions be directed
to the people most affected.
Then you wouldn’t need to guess.
And there wouldn’t be this mess.
